Not sure if this is the correct place for this question... I have this automatic that I pulled out of a '55 that I bought along with a '57 312". Yes I know they are all 312's but this really is, "G" heads, "B" intake, "dot" on the crank flange, etc.

Anyway the trans has the air cooled bell and converter but also has a vacuum modulator, cooler lines to radiator, and a cable for the kickdown. But what really threw me is that it has the normal Fordo shift pattern (PRNDL) but between the L and D there is another detent. When in that position it shift 1-2-3.

Does anyone know/heard of this modification. Sorry no number tag on trans. It is cast iron with an aluminum tail.

Thanks,

BOB

That is a Cruisomatic.Probably a conversion from an FE equipped car since it has the old Fordomatic air cooled convertor. If it had originally come from a late 50s/early 60s Y-block it would not have the air cooled convertor. The car that it originally was in would have two Drive positions on the quadrant.

Thanks Paul, I thought the trans was modified internally some how. Never thought Ford would have such a weird pattern to put the auto 1-2-3 between the low and drive, lol. And of course in a '55 it only shows two positions, Lo and D.

If it is 1-2-3 shift. then it is a FMX. The COM will have high in the middle position. After rereading your orginal post, let me change my mind. If it shifts automatic in the middle detent it is a COM.
