Hi, I'm using a 55 intake manifold on a 292 cu.in. 59 heads & engine. The ports are larger on the heads then they are on the intake. If I use the 59 (larger) intake gasket will their be any problems with leakage? Its going in a 55 Merc. so I want to use the teapot carb.

I would think you would have more chance of air leak if you do use the smaller mercury type intake gasket against the larger head intake ports, try holding later larger intake gasket against manifold intake area, put locating bolts in ends to centralise gasket, look for potential overlaps where gasket may not cover. I would think using the larger gasket would do the job. regards bill.

The 55 and up gaskets are the same. The 54s are smaller from what I've seen come in the gasket sets. Just make sure it's a 55 intake and not a 54 which does not line up very well and can cause a leak.

thanks, everyone I did put the 59 gasket against the 55 intake and their doesn't look like any leakage problems. Their are 3 different size intake gaskets with the engine gasket set I have. one set is smaller like the 54 you mention, the other 2 sets are pretty close the same but, one has larger port and is made with black material this one fits the heads perfectly, the other one has a slightly smaller port and is made with white colored material.Tom
