Looking for some input on engine assembly lube.What products is anyone using when re-assembling an engine rebuild?Thanks

  

I'm new on rebuilding engines, and don't have much mechanic experience, but my buddy Maycon, the guy that does the hard work for me eses angine oil (20W50 SJ from Motorcraft) mixed with Militec-1 at a 50% rate.

So far I've used moly lube on the pushrod cups, cam lobes and lifter crowns and motor oil everywhere else. Along with priming the oil system before starting it's worked fine. I always fire up the engine within days of completing assembly. There might be something better to use if it'll be sitting a while.

Actually, I don't think that is it. I think I used a Crane Cams product, which might be hard to get now.

As Charlie said Moly Lube is great for the cam and lifters, also use some on your bearings. STP cut with a little motor oil to make it easier to use is good in the cylinders and all this will hold for some time.  If your engine does sit for more than a year it may be good to shoot some oil on everything and rotate just to be sure before you start.  Some have used white grease in the past, it is my opinion (that makes it correct ) that this is the worst thing you can use for assembly lube.  It hardens after time and will plug your oil galleries, not the best thing to do.

I really like Torco MZP it is easy to apply and stays where you put it. Wonderful red color too!

As it was the only thing handy at the time, I used Lucas on the push rod/rocker assemblies. Seemed to work OK, but have purchased some ARP lube to use on their head bolts, just to be sure.

6 VOLTS/POS. GRD. NW INDIANA

STP oil treatment lot of good zinc in it. Just brush it on.
