I'd feel a little better if the taillites on my '56 were a little brighter and was wondering if any of you have any experience with the "BRIGHT BULBS"? I'm not really wanting to go to the LED llites but thought that the "BRIGHT BULBS" might be better than original. Are they brighter ? Are they to Hot for the plactic lens? Any thoughts appreciated.

Don't know about '56/12V, but bright 6V bulbs sourced from east coast (?) dealer who advertises in EarlyBird CTCI mag. caused my turn signals to malfunction, so I returned them.

I have not tried the "Bright Lights" but I have tried LEDs and they were not any brighter than the Regular "Long Life" 1157's. Perhaps because they were RED LEDs? Plus I needed to get a special flasher for them to flash. So I too sent them back.



I think the best thing you can do for your lights is ensure you have CLEAN connections and GOOD grounds. I also put dielectric grease on my fittings and bulbs to keep moisture at bay.

LED's are usually brighter but they have to be use properly. Many of those that retrofit into our housings are not designed well for use with a reflector. As a result, they're not as bright looking when viewed straight on and difficult to notice from an angle. Some LEDs are red and when used with a red lens, the result is a light that is not so bright. LEDs also require less current than standard bulbs so turn signals will not work properly unless a resistor is also used.

If I remember right you are running a generator on your 56. I agree with checking grounds but believe the best thing for you would be to update to a alternator.

I have the CASCO LED array tail lights on my 56 Bird. Certainly brighter than original.

I bought a pair of blue dot "Glo-Bright" tail light lenses for my '56 Customline a few months ago off Ebay. The lenses themselves are a much brighter red then the stock lenses and are much brighter with just the standard bulbs.

What is the condition of the reflectors? A good clean could help. I have heard that painting them with white paint is actually the bet for reflection purposed, better than alum. foil.

Thanks again, I think I'll stay with what I've go and just make sure the reflectors are clean, I just thougt that if there was a simple and cheap way to make them a little brighter I'd feel a little safer, although I think most driver (Ihope) realize that an old car will stop a little slower and give you a little more room. I'm using the reproduction Merc wagon lite setups. The lens is one piece and darker than normal. I've tried several of the quick swap LED bulbs but none was any brighter. My reflectors are excellent. So I'm not sure what to do. The HO 1157's seem to be as good as any. Short of having a complete LED panel made. Chuck in NH
