Could someone correct me if I am making a mistake please.

We have my rebuilt 272 on the stand and should be starting it tonight or tomorrow. Things that I've found that are puzzling..

Water pump shaft was too small for my existing waterpump pulley...it worked before so we bushed the pulley to fit snug...

The adapter that bolts onto the pulley, was the right size but the hole in the middle of the fan was too big for the knob on the adapter...The fan would be hard to centre.....

Do I have a pass car pump with a truck pulley and fan...

We are too far along to wait for replacement parts so we will just bush the bigger holes to fit I guess. Is this ok?

Also, what colour should the bell housing be? One guys says black but I think red as the engine...

And finally...Where is a good spot to buy the leather boot that goes over the clutch fork? Mine is all rotted ..

Thanks as always for all your help....please let me know if our ideas to make the pulley and fan fit will blow up in our face or should work....

it sounds to me like you have the correct pump with a truck pulley and spacer. The shaft on the truck pump is 5/8 the car is 1/2.Also ,if you look close, the pulley and damper wont line up properly and will cause the belt to wear prematurely.

The leather boot for the clutch arm should be available at any old Ford (49-60's)parts supplier.

Could I make a correction on water pump shaft sizes?  Passenger is 5/8", truck is 3/4".

Great day today. My buddy started my engine today on the stand and it runs fantastic. My 272 was bored 30 over and sounds so much better now with new parts.
We are getting 19 inch of vacuum at idle and also at 3500 RPM....now my wipers should work going up hills.... The oil pressure gauge reads 50 psi with the engine reasonably warmed up. There were no leaks either.
My Edlebrock 600 carb works just fine...I don't think I'll be needing to buy a 500 for it.

Next week we will change the steering column and buy new clutch parts. We hope to have it in by next Sat.

Now if only the snow would go away and the 0 degree F weather would warm up..

Thanks to all for your help and advice.

Great news, Love your trailer test stand, looks almost like mine.

Watch those Fram filters though, I used to use them because they were cheap and everywhere until I read the filter comparisons a couplee years ago, they are the worst and have a cardboard checkvalve or something that can come loose, plug the oil supply and cost a motor, I think there are a couple guy's on here that it happened to.

Your friend has found the solution to the "can I use your engine test stand" question. Tow it home and bring it back when your done. I like it!

Y's guys rule!
Looking for McCullouch VS57 brackets and parts. Also looking for 28 Chrysler series 72 parts. And early Hemi parts.
