Someone should explain this "T-pot" carb to me. What is it exactly, and why is it called a T-pot? Do you sometimes call it tea-pot carb?

Al, it is holley model 4000, from around 53? to 57, called tea pot because of its rounded top shape, more often called towering inferno,s and other names due to fuel leaking internally  causing backfires and resulting fies, other guys will add more, they are ok if you perserver but later carb is more practicle, thats only my view, regards bill.

"Towering inferno"  First time I heard that one. That's funny.

Hmm...I have a strange old holley on my engine. By rounded top shape, you mean into the air filter section?

Jester:

Scroll down in the Technical forum to the thread "removing a teapot".  There are pictures that show the arrangement.  The most obvious is that the fuel bowl is at the extreme top of the carb.

One last question:

Is the teapot carb desirable? Do I want one?

For an  authentic restoration certainly. For a driver that does not have to be totally original, I'd go to a later, newer carb.

In that case, I'm not likely to change to one.
