I stopped at Napa to get some Type F atf for my 57 bird and 65 Galaxie. The guy said Type FA replaces Type F. I am not so sure about that. Can anyone clear this up.?

Mark,

Not exactly what you asked. But, when I had my Ford-o-matic rebuilt the shop recommended Dexron. I used it with no problems.

Jim,

Yeah...I have rebuilt C6 in my 66 F100 that now uses Dextron due to the upgraded modern parts. Both my Tbird and the Galaxie have the original transmissions in them. Not rebuilt so I am wary of the FA stuff, especially relying on a kid behind the parts counter.

Ford always seems to do that with their ATF. Their latest example is Mercon III & Mercon V. For awhile a vehicle took only one or the other. Now they all take Mercon V.

Mark:

To answer your question, yes, FA replaces F.

Thanks John. It occurred to me that the "A" in FA could stand for "additives". The retailers/distributors could probably do a better job of explaining the product applications.
