Does anyone know where I could find a socket/bit to remove the drain plug on a 55's fuel tank? I went to Sears tonight but the closest thing I could find was Torx bits but those wont do it.

I need to drain my tank to give it a good cleaning it has the worst clog I have ever encountered. Not a drop of fuel comes out of the feed tube 

if the drain plug is square , you can use a 12 point socket. those plugs are sealed in quite tight though , you will likely be better off using vise grip pliers and replacing the plug after.

Unfortunately, my drain plug does not stick out any. It looks like an 8 point star of some kind and it is sunken into the plug. If it were a belly button, it would be an inny.

Maybe it's an Allen Head socket?

find a bolt with a head that fits in, then put 2 nuts on the end and tighten them into each other, use a socket on the nuts, and poof you made a drain plug tool

Well Thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up dropping the tank without draining (I could only siphon so much). I will let you all know what I end up using for removing the plug.

Now I have to do decide what to do about my nasty clog. When I look in the tank I see a tube leading to a puck looking pickup. I really don't know how I am going to clean out all the crud from under the puck without cutting a hole in the tank and removing the pickup.

I am thinking that I just may block off the original pick-up tube and have a new bung brazed on. Any thougts or warning against that idea. 

Unfortunately it is a wagon and no replacement tanks are available and my tank does not look that bad in or out.  

I Just told you what to use. The plug is a 8 sided 1/2" hole. Use a 1/2" drive ratchet without a socket on it. I have two '55 wagons and I have had both plugs out...

I should read more carefully. 1/2" ratchet did the trick.
