I need some opinions.  I have a 1957 T-Bird, with a 312 4V.  It currently has Cherry Bombs and then pipes back to the bumper.  Right now, with the Cherry Bombs, it's a little too loud, when driving around.  It's time for a new exhaust system, and I want to quiet it down just a little bit.  But, I DON't want to neuter it, if you know what I mean.  I still want to hear it.  The guy at the exhaust shop suggested installing turbo mufflers.  He thought that would be a good compromise between the glass packs and a regular muffler.  I have never really heard what a turbo muffler sounds like.  If I don't like the sound after it's installed, I'm screwed.

What are your thoughts.

I have turbos on my '58 and it sounds good.  Sounds REAL good when you open it up.  I'm not a big fan of the Glasspack, sounds kinda "Pop-popie" to me, the tubos have a smooth throaty sound.

I like hookers, through an X pipe.

Some video/sound.

They are a lot quieter than the Purple Hornies glass packs I have at cruise and wide open but the idle sound level is about the same; you can have a conversation without having to yell with the Hooker Aerochambers.

I'm with Tim on avoiding straight thru glass packs. My 57 car with auto has small turbos & has a nice sound, but isn't annoying on the road or likely to tick off the neighbors. It burbles on down hills but no banging or loud popping.

I'm old school. I ran Smithy's on my 55 back in 62 and I've got em on now and everyone loves em, just a nice pure rumble. Gary

On my Bird I have 22" glasspacks where the original mufflers were, & 12" glasspacks where the original resonators were. The 12" fit just after the bend upwards going up to the radius over the rear axle. If anything, this system is too quiet for me. But I am old school & like the glasspack sound on these old cars.
