Has anyone documented where all these E code T-Birds are at today? i.e. # restored, # scrap, # unrestored, etc ... . Likewise the E code passenger cars. How many still exist today, in some shape or from? With all the 8V intake manifolds I've seen through the years at swap meets, etc ... I would like to know what happened to the carburetors, linkage, and air cleaners? I would think there would be somewhat parity on all the components required to build the system. I wonder how many were purchased as service parts, and not came off of old E code engines? Regards, Dennis

In the Ford Service Department publication Product Service Letter P-311a dated July 6, 1956 (quote)
A new high power kit (B6A-9000-B) has been released for use on the 312 cubic inch passenger car engine, when customers may desire to obtain maximum performance from 1956 cars where it is desired, as in law enforcement, stock car racing, etc.
This new kit will be available through Ford dealers and will be adapted to to 1956 312 cubic inch passenger cars with standard or overdrive transmissions only. The service letter goes on how to install and tune the setup. In the last paragraph it reads (quote) Because stocks of these parts supplied in a limited amount, all stock orders should be submitted to Central Parts Depot, P.O. Box 2005, 29500 Plymouth Road, Livonia, Michigan.
If the product has been released for retail 6 July 1956 there likely is earlier casting numbers on some manifolds to meet supply needs.

Oldmics, Have you or anyone checked with the T-Bird club? It was my understanding when they received the gate releases for the 1957 Fords, not only did they sift out the ones for the T-Birds, but also kept the ones for unique passenger cars, such as E and F engined vehicles. I also looked at my ECG 8V aluminum intake, it has a 1-9 casting date. Regards, Dennis

Found a definitive answer in the book Ultimate American V-8 Engine Data Book, 1949-1974 http://books.google.com/books?id=KD23-WEk7YgC&pg=PA101&lpg=PA101&dq=supercharged+y+blocks&source=web&ots=qsFH1WQk_o&sig=5odysO7HUNtTvivr0Oiqk-8PO0o#PPA101,M1 They claim that approximately 2100 units were built. Hey,its the only number that I have ever seen in print. Oldmics

PC; I can't say for sure but in 1956 as I understand it, the Dual 4 Barrel setups may have been a Dealer option. They were not "E" coded from the factory, that year. As I recall this info was in YBM... Just to elaborate, apparently a handful of early 1956 292s were equipped with that setup & rated at 230 H.P. A photo exists of one of those cars at Daytona, as I recall driven by Joe Weatherley.. Anybody got more definitive info?

What I heard is that the dual quad setup was a dealer installed option available for police pursuit vehicles. I might have that wrong, but if it's true, it could account for the high numbers of parts still showing up 50 years later.

Pretty interesting. Now ,I have been accumulating the casting dates that are on "E" code intake manifolds that I see on eBay and thru my hands. The earliest one is 10-15-56 and then the next batch produced that I have was on 1-18 and then on 2-28 followed by 3-7,3-13,6-5-57,6-6-57 and 6-10. They must have produced the majority of these items early on to justify those numbers. The 10-15-56 intake that I have is the only one that I have ever seen. Oldmics

Oldmics: I had to drag this old post back up. Today I ran across a copy of a Ford communication that was apparently written in Dec. of '56. To that point, they had produced 1000, 270 horse engines, were expecting to build another 1000 by Jan 1 and another 1700 by Feb 1. No distinction between Birds and passenger cars. So 3700 were expected by Feb, I wondered if they continued at this rate until '57 production ended, probably in June or July. That would have been another 5000 engines, seems like a lot of them to me. Just a little info and some speculatingl. John

Had this posted over on another site and thought I would drag it over here. Hello All
The 1957 Dual Quad "E" setup seems to have had a lot of its items on eBay recently and also at Ford Carlise.
I know that about 1500,1957 T Birds were built using this setup.
Any guess"s or documentation as to how many dual quad "E" code setups were totally produced by Ford for all of there automotive offerings?
I heard a number of 5000 of total production used on cars and T Birds.
What do you guys think?
