I have been reading through a pile of old hot rod mags trying to see if I can find a Y block in a 35-40 Ford. I have been toying with the idea of putting one back in my 36 pickup, but I really don't want to cut the firewall. Any idea if it will fit. I am almost positive it will.

This swap was covered in Hot Rod a long time ago, I don't remember even approximately when.  What I remember is that a T-Bird rear sump pan was used, and the generator was re-mounted to the top of the engine.  I don't remember any need to cut the firewall.  Instead of a T-Bird pan, which is rare and expensive, a truck pan could be used, but the front of it would probably have to be modified to clear the early crossmember.  I put a Y in a '33 and cut a front sump pan about an inch below the flange, reversed it and welded it back together.

The hundred dollar 292 I just bought has the rear sump pan on it I believe.
