I'm building a 1957 2x4 312 for my 1955 T-bird. I think I have the correct block, heads and intake manifold. I'm confused about which carburetors i need and which distributor i need for it to be "numbers correct" for 1957.

Hope you guys can help on the part #s i need and where i might start looking for them.

Steve:

Do you also have the special valley cover for the E setup?  It is recessed in the center to clear the bottom of the manifold.  Also, a '57 T-Bird tach drive distributor, in any of their forms, are very difficult to find, and not cheap.  The '55 distributor will not work very well on an E engine.

E Carbs:

ECJ-9510-AA (Front, Automatic) List 1437

ECJ-9510_AB (Front and rear on manual trans, rear on auto) List 1434

From Gil Baumgartner, TBird Restoration Manual.

If you are putting these on a 55, why bother with these? These will cost an arm and two legs even if you can find them.

Thank you all for the info.  I know it sounds weird to want a 57 #s matching 2x4 312 for a 55 T-bird but i thought it would be a fun projectto hunt down the parts. My 55 has a great stock 292 so for the time being this 312 will just be on an engine stand as i assemble it.

I keep hearing about some factory E-codes coming with Carter carbs.  Is that true?

Thanks again

 55 ebird asks

"I keep hearing about some factory E-codes coming with Carter carbs.  Is that true?"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not from the factory.I"m sure that the race boys tried everything but it was Holly teapots from the factory for both 56/57 Fords and Mercs.

Distributor for the "E" engine is stamped FEJ-12127-B2    Good luck in finding one of those Tongue
