What is the correct carb for the 55 272 2barrel. I've got several 1 1/16 ECG's and I'm thinkin this is the right one but need it confirmed. I'm building a manifold to sell. Thanx, Gary

Have you got a carb ID#?Even automatic and stick cars were different ID#s

A 55 272 cubic inch Y-Block 2 barrel should be a manual choke ECG markings. I don't know of any specific markings for an automatic or standard transmission. The only thing that would be different would be the linkage. I really don't think anyone would know the difference between the automatic and standard carb.

If you go to the Ford parts catalogue there are mulitple carb parts lists even for 55 272.The only way to identify what carb you have in your hand is ID# off the carb.

I can't see any #'s on these 94's. Only the venturi size and the ECG or ECG 5 or ECG 6. Gary

P.S. I forgot to tell you there is a differnce in the 2 barrel carbs. Automatics have what Ford calls a dashpot. It is a small diaphram that mounts on the base of the carb. It looks like a small vacuum advance for a distributer and is mounted on a metal bracket that has two small screws that secure it to the base of the carb. The purpose is to prevent the engine from stalling when you let off the accelerater suddenly. The dash pot prevents the carbs throttle plates from closing shut too quickly and allows the carb to return to idle a little slower so the engine does not die. Hope this helps.
