ECU-6513-A, I assume this is a 1956? Lincoln valve spring.  If anyone has a Lincoln parts book or Service Specifications Book, or if you have an actual valve spring, I would like to find out any information on this valve spring, such as:

Engine applications and years, free length, open/closed pressure and specified length, ID, OD, # of coils, wire diameter, direction of coil, color stripe or paint color, with or without damper coil, etc ... .

Thanks.

Regards,

Dennis

Dennis:

I checked my parts books and in the Master book it lists the ECU6513A valve spring as year 1957. Required 16 each so both exhaust and intake are the same. It does not list particular engine as it is listed in a separate column with no engine size heading. The parts book also lists B9A6514A valve spring retainer and B9A6517A sleeve along with B6Q6519A valley cover in this same column. Parts of a truck engine or??

That is all the info I have. I checked my TSBs I have on Lincolns an d Mercury's, no info there. I don't have a very good library on Lincolns and are missing several.

I was just checking the info on M-118a September 23, 1955 235 HORSE POWER 312 CUBIC INCH HIGH

OUTPUT ENGINE (1956 Cars) and the parts breakdown lists ECU6513A valve spring as the valve spring used. confused more??

ECU-6513-A cross"s to B6A-6513-B

Cant find out anything else about it.Except that Marv is correct in its inclusion to the Merc 235 H.P. engine parts list.It is NOT the spring used on the M 260 Mercury kit.

OK, thanks.  Am I correct to assume the ECU prefix means the part was originally for a 1956? 368 Lincoln engine?

Dennis

Dennis

Found it in my 56-59 Merc Master Parts Catalog

iT is listed AS

ECU 6513-A   16 required for the 57 368 engine.Pretty sure the 368 engine was first introduced in the 1957 model year.

I remembered I had a 1957 Motor's Auto Repair Manual.  It shows the 368 in Lincoln & Continential for 56 and 57, and for Mercury for 57.

In the Lincoln & Continential section it lists the following specs:

1956 - 165# @1.38"  valve lift .256/.256

1957 - 183# @1.38"  valve lift .417/.417

Camshaft - zero lash  Timing IO -18 BTDC EC - 31 ATDC

Mercury 368:

1957 - 165# @ 1.38" valve lift .417/.417

Cam Timing - same as Lincoln

BTW, for the 1957 Ford 312 8V it lists 265 hp @ 4800 and 336  LbsFt @ 4600.

161# @ 1.39" .272/.285 lift  IO/EC 18/10

1957 Mercury 312 - 255 hp @ 4700 and 340 LbsFt @ 2600.

141# @ 1.39 .401/.421  IO/EC 18/10

Dennis

i have a 56-57 big job 700-900 parts book, it shows the 272-302-332 valve spring as #B6A-6513-A, THEY SHOW SPEC. AS 7 COILS, 2.09" FREE LENGTH, JUST TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA. the B6A-6513-B is probably for the car 368's that had 1.6 rockers instead of 1.5 of 55 and earlier and all trucks. i don't have my lincoln or later truck manuals here at the house, sorry.

 lincoln/merc. y-blocks &mel's                                                               bucyrus, ohio.

The B6A-6513-A / ECZ-6513-A spring is pretty much the "vanilla" spring used in 223 6 cyl, later 292's, and even 260/289 engines.  They must of made a billion of them!  LOL

Perhaps someone has a factory Shop Manual for a 56 or 57 Lincoln or a 57 Mercury that should contain the valve spring specifications for the 368 engine and post the info.

Regards,

Dennis
