I AM INSTALLING A TOYOTA POWER STEERING CONVERSION ON MY 256 Y BLOCK.  NEED HELP WITH PUMP BRACKET, PULLEY AND PROPER PUMP FOR TOYOTA BOX.   ALSO PLANNING ON AOD TRANSMISSION.  CONCERNED WITH LOOSING BELL HOUSING ENGINE MOUNTS.  ANY ADVICE ON AOD CONVERSION TO Y BLOCK WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

THANKS.

JIM

You don't need to scream at us! Mummert has a nice p/s bracket that should work nicely, check with him about recomended pump. Use the forum search function, should be a lot of info on AOD swap. I am not aware of an AOD adapter that allows use of the bell housing mounts. I would think that the proper way would be too add a crossmember and use the engine side mounts. This would require a crossmember for trans support also. By the way, welcome to the forum.

Adding a Saginaw pump is fairly easy as long as your engine has a crankshaft damper and not a cast or stamped 1954 pulley only. I don't have any method to add a pulley to the 54 crank pulleys.

The mount for the pump will fit either way its driving the pump that becomes a problem. This holds true for the 54 and 55 trucks with the high mounted fan also. No way to add a pulley to the crank pulley.

As long as your crankshaft damper has a casting number starting with ECG you shouldn't have any problem.

Jim,

I may have a pre 1957 double pulley damper that would work for you. I purchased it off ebay for $145 before I realized what I was doing. Once I got it, I discovered there are two options for pulley grooves. Pulleys prior to 1957 are 1/2" wide and 1957 pulleys and later were downsized to 3/8". The damper I have includes a 1/2" add on pulley that bolts directly to the damper. I ended up getting another damper compatible with the components which I had (3/8"). The pre 1957 appears to be in good shape and comes with the add on pulley to drive the power steering pump. If your interested, I would be willing to visit with you before I list it on ebay.  I would also ask anyone from the forum to step up and let me know if my understanding of dampers is not correct.

I am just completing a project similar to yours.   A 55 F-100 with a  292. 312 Crank shaft turned down to 292 specs., bored to 3.83 with Mummert forged piston/rod combination.  I am using a Bendtsen Transmission adapter.

I utilized the existing front engine mount with a fabricated crossmember with a similar crossmember for the transmission.  I then fabricated some side mounts using the existing bolt holes for use in a car application. A word  of caution, don't use to long of a bolt in these side mount bosses. You can easily crack the block into a water jacket. I'll try to get some pictures and post them on Monday.  The truck is in the body shop getting it's final fit and paint.

Rocky Y-Guy:    I used an electric p/s pump from an MR2 and didn't have to

mess with all the pulley's etc. I mounted it down low on the d/s frame

BUT, you have to have at least a 70/80 amp alt to cover the amp load

           necessary.

                       Welcome to a great group...
