I saw the thread about leaking oil filter adapters. It was mentioned about a Ron Nuckles Prestige adapter gasket. I have a leak at adapter, bought new adapter that came with thin rubber gasket. I thought I remembered a thicker fiber/thick paper/asbestos gasket in the overhaul kits? Picture in Jul '99 Street Rodder article shows a thick fiber like gasket and says to install dry. Where can I get a thicker/better gasket that won't leak? I even looked at the rubber o-ring gaskets that come with canister filters but they are too small diameter and seem even thinner than the one I got with new adapter plate. Help and thanks.

Rod.  Check your email as I’ve already responded to the note that was sent before seeing this thread.

Here’s the link to the Walt Nuckels article on repairing deformed oil filter adapters.

Mac's has the thicker gasket. I just bought a couple. I emailed Prestige about it, they never answered.

Charlie Dover is remaking an Aluminum oil filter adaptor that looks Great that has an industrial O ring for sealing against the block. He's checking now to see what his cost are to come up with a price as he wants to start selling them as soon as possible. I've emailed Ted pictures of it and its alot sturdier than the thin metal original and no gasket slipping.

I believe this should be a new thread and Ted hopefully can start one and post the pictures as well.                                  This adaptor should take care of the problems we have with the old one. I am running one on my 56 sunliner and so far it's doing great. The aluminum adaptor is only .028 taller than the steel one

Besides the extra thick gasket, the adapter kit Mac's has is a very heavy duty disc. Much heavier than the stamped steel.

Here are some pics that Gary forwarded to me of the oil filter adapter being proposed by Charlie Dover.

Cool looking piece! I assume that you would still use the stock center fitting.

That's right Glen, it's a direct bolt on that looks Great!!! and no gasket slipping out. I should know the price shortly.
