My interior on my bird when I am driving it gets very hot (not very but Hot) from the engine compartment. I have insulation allover the floor andfirewall and it still gets hot. How can I eliminate this? Or reduce it at least. It doesnt get hot all the time but most of the time its warmer than necessary. I am guessing I need more insulation? thanks 55birdman

that why the 56's and  later have fender vents, they also have sunvisors too ! Ford got lots of complaints 1955  over that . I have a 55 tbird too !

Look into relocating the mufflers further to the rear. Try some ceramic coating on the exhaust manifolds. Pete

Hey Birdman;;   Might check the heater valve. Could be bypassing interenally, makes it hot .  Also you could put a mechanical shutoff valve in you heater feed hose.  Most heater valves will start to bypass after a few years, never a great design in the first place.  I have a vintage A/C-heat and Defrost in my 55 bird. Has an electric water valve, but I still put a turn off valve in the line.  I usually turn off flow during summer months.  Food for thought.   Many thanks Jim and all.   God Bless    Eddie

You might consider opening that valve occasionally durring the summer to keep your heater core from clogging (if you're not doing it).

It's usually the grasshopper valve (under the dash) that fails, as the manifold-mounted, vaccum water valve is normally-open. I keep finding NOS ones cheap on eBay, and since they have a bi-metal thermo-spring, temp. control feature that is part of the charm involved with original equipment, I keep putting off the inevitable mechanical conversion.

Here's my 2¢. Everything so far, said is right. You can also disable the water hose exiting the intake manifold temporarily in the summer months. (Your choice how to do it). Depends what your climate is like in the summer.



Some time ago I bought a heavy rubber insluation floor set from Snayke-Oyl products in Texas. Don't know if they still have them. But It works well.



But the absolute biggest change ever was when I moved the muffler to the "Resonator" position.

So the real answer to your question is it's probably a little of all these things and you'll need to chip away at them all to make a recognizalble difference.

Remember, it's technology from 1954.

Not all floor isulation is "created equal" - this stuff isn't cheap but it is more effective than some of the old carpet padding standbys.

I installed a heater shutoff valve some time ago and I keep it closed . I just installed 2 22in smithys that sit under my butt now . I dont have resonators . Should I get smaller mufflers and  install them? I can get 13 inch ones. Anybody want some smithys? 55birdman
