I like what I see. Seems like only two mounting bolts work just fine. Pushing the starter gear from the block side raises a question. The starter ring surface on the flywheel has a step machined into it on the block side. I thought it was there to keep the ring from being pushed off the flywheel when the stock starter gear came from the back. With all the success of this mini starter, perhaps the step is mostly there for a proper seating location. One of the problems with the Quick Time bell is they engineered it for a smaller (351) diameter flywheel. I was considering asking Tim to machine the flywheel down for the smaller starter ring and the plan was to have the step machined on the opposite side (if I used the mini starter).

Charlie: You've brought up a good point about the mini starters engagement direction. As Ted has pointed out before, Y-blk starters engage from the rear. The use of the late style F.E starters for instance, which bolt up o.k. but engage from the front, has resulted in disaster for some, as it can pull the ring gear off the flywheel. More info is needed here...?

Hi Guys; Might add-- that if you are using and adaptor plate some of the flywheels are different, (number of teeth) Jack at Auto Elect. knows about this and will put the correct drive gear in during assembly. Food for thought??? God Bless Eddie

Got it in the post today, What a small quality built unit. Cannot wait to get it installed. First need to install my new valley cover (from REX High performance in Canada) Then reinstall my new aquired Edelbrock 573 intake and take it back to the dyno. (will try to post the results from it and the the offenhauser I had on it at first/ probably has been posted before but maybe some are interested in it). Any more advice on installing the starter or anything else?
