Just bought an original 55 F100 and want to know solutions for a couple imediate updates.

What options are available for dual exhausts?

What is the best and least expensive option for adding power steering?

Your dual exhaust options are:

Take out the crossover pipe and cap the one end and have an exhaust pipe bent up for the other side.

Ram horn exhaust manifolds...look great but expensive. www.ford-y-block.com or www.speedwaymotors.com

Headers  (best performance)...various manufactures: Reds Headers, Sanderson, Patriot, Speedway Motors.  I prefer Speedway Motors.

Your power steering options depend on a few factors but none are inexpensive.  All options will be over $1000 or more.

There is ram assist which allows you to keep your stock column, steering box etc and if needed column shift

There is a conversion kit that uses a toyota steering box that requires cutting of column and or a new steering column....neither kit comes with power steering pump or brackets.

There is the option to put in mustang 2 type IFS with rack and pinion steering.  This would still require pump and brackets.

See www.Midfifty.com for these kits.  See www.ford-y-blocks.com for power steering brackets and pumps options.

Hope this helps!

There are always cast iron car dual exhaust manifolds for sale. The 57 and later ones are the best. I don't know for sure how they fit a truck though. Be careful online cause many of these are overpriced. Someone here probably has a set. Also another steering option is the Borgeson box to add power steering to the early Mustangs.

Note: the picture at Jegs is reversed Smile                                                                      You will have to cut your existing column and put in a coupler though. Chuck

I don't believe the car cast iron mainifold with rear exit will work on the driver side due to steering box interference on the trucks.

The car exhaust manifolds will only work on a truck if you use 2 passenger side manifolds (right side) so it exits toward the front. Otherwise it will have interference with the steering box.

You know when all is considered, headers etc. the Rams horns look pretty good and the price isn't that bad. I wish I could run some in my car. ChuckSmile
