It looks like I will be looking under the hoods of every 61 to 64 truck I see,I would have checked the one in the local yard yesterday but had too much work to do. That yard has a bunch of old state and military base vehicles so if the one I know about is not a 262 then there might be one in there somewhere,I thought about going with a 300 but I want a old looking motor and that series of motor will confuse a bunch of people.




To the best info I can get the 262 was a one year only in the light duty trucks, 1964. The local town garbage truck had a 262 engine in a 64 F350 Ford.I don't know if they were available in the medium duty models (F500's) These engines has a cast crank instead of the steel crank like the HD trucks did.In 65 the 240 sixes came out and previous to 64 the only six in the early 60's light duty trucks was the 223 engine.

PS. Was just reading again the site info and see the fuel pumpwas changed in 64 to mid block. I had fogotten that.
