just like the topic has stated: I've found a 56' horn ring in good condition for sale, but want to make sure it'll work before buying it and having it shipped. Any insight? Mine's a 57' Fairlane 500

The steering wheels are the same from 56-59.Horn rings should interchange without a problem. There is a standard wheel which has only the horn button and the deluxe wheel which uses the full horn ring. The horn rings differ in design from each year but all will fit.

in 59 I believe the wheel and horn ring is different in the way the horn is sounded ,they use a small pin around 1/8" dia to ground and sound horn. And a 59 wheel is slightly shorter in hight I swapped a 59 steering column into my 56 to take avantage of reculating ball type steering box to replace the 56s worm and sector. There is a small difference in overall length and 56 wheel on 59 column leaves a gap between wheel and column. And FYI it does seem to be easier and smoother steering.

Part # is the same from 56-59.Perhaps an adjustment on the mast position where it goes onto the box would close the gap.Interesting swap you did.I have not heard of anyone doing a 59 into 56 installation.Has to be a pretty big  improvement over the 56 box.

It was actually almost a bolt in I did it in the driveway on a Friday night3/4 hrs. noticed the steering box was low/empty the donut sized "O" ring was out and laying on pitman arm put it back in and filled it and it dumped it all when i drove it ,and remembered seeing a 59 steering column on E-bay for reasonable money. So I bought it swapped it and it does drive nice. Plus It has the start in park Nuteral safety switch.

Sorry for stealing your thread !!!
