Hey guys. I have a 57 Tbird with a 312. I noticed that the L bracket motor mount is broken. It is currently riveted to the frame. Can this be welded and hold? It is broken slightly above the 90˚ bend.

- (explains the engine wobble and noise). thanks

If you have a quality mig or tig weld it can be welded in my opinion. I have fabbed complete motor mounts with welded stock on a couple of occasions. That said I'm not familiar with T-Bird mounts, so take my opinion for what its worth.

I've also ground off those big rivets and replaced similar mounts on Willys trucks. They cut off easy with a grinder and cutting disk. I'd say fixing it right, it isn't much harder than welding it and then cleaning the bead and repainting the burned paint.

Just for the record, it can also be welded with stick electrode. In case the bracket is carbon or alloy steel, best use a Low-hi electrode.
