You guys are right, the Ford O Matic I have in storage does have an alum tail shaft, it's so covered in crud I had to use a magnet to verify it was not alum. It's also about 7 inches longer than the FMX standing next to it.
Bill, In the US the rear most part of the trans that accepts the slip yoke and speedo gear is commonly called the tailshaft housing, do you call it something different?
Kev, i was thinking that later, yes, if i remember rightly you call our "tail shaft", the "drive shaft" from what i see here. And you refer to the rear trans housing as the tailshaft? but was referred to as "tailshaft" and not tailshaft "housing" in 1st and 2nd replies, strange when the housing is not a shaft! but got the general idea.
