I ran into someone selling a 55 Merc motor that was taken out of a 55 Ford and is advertised as a 272 but I am thinking the Merc motors were a 292 in 55,I am interested in the motor for the heads if any better then whats on my 62 motor and the manual trans parts.

Original '55 Mercs were all 292.

If I understand your question properly, the seller says it came out of a 55 Ford.. so it would likely be a 272. However, without casting letters, there is no way to answer your head question..

Considering the interchangeability of Y-Block parts the valve covers could have been swapped or the whole motor. You will need all the numbers you can find to ID it. John Mummerts site has a good guide to the parts ID numbers and their locations. Check his site at:

Looking for McCullouch VS57 brackets and parts. Also looking for 28 Chrysler series 72 parts. And early Hemi parts.

I requested casting numbers and nothing so far,it has yellow mercury valve covers and the block looks to be green but I was hoping it had better heads then my 62 motor and have been told they are not so probably wont look at it.
