A guy not far from me advertised some NOS 55-56 ford parts in the local paper and before I got wind of it he sold $6000.00 dollars worth the day before of NOS parts to somebody else, Bummer.

He has a T pot I believe he said comes from a 55 T-Bird, it looks in near new condition, he said he bought a brand new one and took this one off his bird. its an ECK 9410 RH List 1074, anybody know what this comes from originally? He wants $125 for it and I thinking of offering $100.

I did manage to score a few parts but he was pretty well cleaned out by the time I got there, he had 3 sets of original T bird valve covers with extended studs and acorn nuts still in the package, 2 sets were gone but I got the 3rd. These aren't the repros either, NOS.

Hmmmm.... '49 - '59 Ford Parts & Accessories Text Catalog shows ECK 9510 C, D, G, H, S, and T suffixes.



'55 'Bird ECK numbers were:

- ECK 9510-C standard and overdrive trans.

- ECK 9510-G standard and overdrive trans.

- ECK 9510-S standard and overdrive trans.

- ECK 9510-D FordoMatic trans.

- ECK 9510-H FordoMatic trans.

- ECK 9510-T FordoMatic trans.



Perhaps it's a Lincoln or Mercury number???

Hmmmm, just checked the paper I wrote the numbers on to make sure I didn't make a typo here and the number on the paper is 9410. Not saying I could have made a typo mistake when I wrote the number down, I'll have to call the guy and have him confirm it.

What about the RH also, you only mention one prefix letter and this has 2?

holley shows it as a 55 ford/merc. 292 auto 50 & 86 jets, list 1074, ECK-H, this would cover the t-bird option in a ford.

All Tbird carbs started with a prefix of ECJ. Cars and Tbirds did not share the same number. This was also true in 56, don't know about 57. Differences were probably minor, although jets may have been one of them.

Billy.  I moved this query to the tech section.  Add the following to what has already been posted.

 

The Holley book lists several List #1074 carbs with all being listed for the 1955 Ford & Mercury 292 engines.  The ECK-RH part number you mentioned is not shown with any of the list numbers which makes it rather unique and if there is no suffix behind the 1074, then this could potentially be a very early production 1074 carb of which not enough were made to include it in this particular parts manual.  And because it’s not listed, it could have potentially been on any car including a Thunderbird.  The 1074 carbs that are listed in the Holley parts catalogue have suffixes of A, 1A, & 2AAS and none of these were oem for a ’55 ‘Bird, just for Fords and Mercs with 292 engines.  Carbs with list numbers 997, 998, 1077 & 1078 appear to be the dominate Holley list numbers for the ’55 Thunderbirds when skimming through the Holley parts manual.

That is exactly how it was stamped in the carb.

I edited my previously posted reply because I only put forward the information regarding ECK stamped carbs used on '55 Birds. -That's because Billy was only asking about an ECK number.



Once again, Ted has provided information from his Holley books which adds significantly to what I'm finding in the '49 - '59 Ford Text Catalog. I wish I had the Holley books!



Going back to Paul's input regarding numbers being different for the passenger cars and the 'Birds... for '55, the Ford Text Catalog shows the passenger car 272 cu. in. 182 H.P. Special with FordoMatic and the 292 cu. in. 'Bird FordoMatic both using:

- an ECJ or ECK 9510-D carburetor

- an ECJ or ECK 9510-H carburetor

These were exceptions in 1955 to Paul's statement. That said, I'm sure that there must be some typo's in any parts book, too! Smile



As an addendum to all this number stuff, I have been shown two '56 PowerPak carbs that were mis-stamped by someone on the assembly line! The same two prefix letters were switched on both of them. Soooo... the correct letters were used, but the same two prefix letters were stamped out of sequence on both carburetors! Now, that's a one-of-a-kind pair! -Or is it? Rolleyes

I suppose that there could have been an ECK carb used on a TBird, but the Tbird restoration manual shows only the ECJ carbs. I assume that this information comes from Ford archives as well as field experience.
