If the block needs a rebore, you might want to consider going to 292 pistons. Those pistons & rings are easier to get & you're paying for a rebore already. The only possible problem with that scenario is if you have an early 55 block. I've heard some of them may have thinner cylinder walls. But, I can't confirm that information, maybe someone here can comment with authority..

It’s always highly recommended to sonic test the blocks before heavily overboring them. Core shift can crop up when least expected. To bore the 272 to a standard 292 size, you are talking 0.125” overbore and that is to the extreme for most 272’s. While most of those excessively overbored engines do crank and run, the cylinder walls are on the thin side from a durability standpoint. If the sonic sheet is used during the boring operation, then the cylinders can be offset bored into the thicker portions of the walls and this will help to equalize the cylinder wall thickness making the block much more durable.
