hi folks

need your comments observations

i have a J Mummert divided plenum intake and i'm thinking of using a 1" spacer. reading T Eatons spacer tests in Y-BLOCK mag  the tapered spacer seems the way to go BUT...the underside of the spacers appear to be hogged out to such a degree the the centre does not seal to the dividing wall of the manifold.    does it matter if there are a couple of half moon gaps or would i be better off with 4 straight holes.   not racing just strong street

If you have the room for the 1" spacer, then it will help.  I would suggest using an open spacer gasket on the bottom of the spacer, and a 4 hole gasket under the carburetor.  A 1" cloverleaf spacer will work well, also.  If you use the cloverleaf, then use 2 open spacer gaskets, and do not have gasket material on the divider to get sucked into the engine.   Joe-JDC.

never really considered gasket material getting sucked in. one to watch.

so it does not matter there is a side to side passage across the divider?

the Blue Thunder manifold has a square cut out through the divider i suppose that is similar.

whats it there for? i thought keeping everything divided kept mix velocity up etc?

as i lack experience i tend to go on gut feelings and the gut is telling me to keep the two sides sealed and seperate

so i may have a go at making my own spacer

    The tapered spacer will probably work. They're easy to change, i'd try it several ways and see what you like best. The open spacer will probably hurt the bottom end power a bit, not what I'd want in a truck./A four hole taper or divided two oblong holes would be my first choice.

I understand exactly what you are talking about, but I can't answer your initial question either. I just bought a Quick Fuel 1" 4-hole tapered phenolic spacer for my stroked blower motor. It's going on a modified "B" manifold which is similar in design to John M's aluminum intake and the spacer does not contact the center of the manifold between the two ovals. I plan on using the open gasket on the bottom (between spacer and manifold) and the 4 hole gasket between spacer and carb. We'll see wht happens.

Is it worthwhile to add a radius to the wall between the front and rear holes of a 4 hole spacer, something like the clover leaf design, but leave a dividing wall between the left and right halves for a dual plane intake?
It seems like it would be a good idea, but if it is, how come no one makes one like that?  Maybe there is typically enough distance between the spacer and floor of the intake that it is not necessary?

If I understand correctly, that is what I did.
The bottom gasket is dual oval. I had to make my own due to the relationship between the carb studs and the centre dividing wall. I found if I flipped the gasket it no longer sat on the dividing wall.
