Hey all,



The 292 for my truck is coming together. I now need to decide what intake to run. A part of me wants excellent driveability, but the other part of me doesn't want to leave any power on the table. I live in Mass, am running an Isky E-4 cam, and I plan to drive the truck rain or shine. Is the ECZ-9425-B good enough? Does the heat crossover absorb potential power? On the other hand, is it worth keeping the heat crossover since I live in the northeast?



All opinions are welcome.



Oh, and does anyone have a nice intake for sale?

For year round driving I would keep the crossover. The only down side is that the paint will burn off the intake manifold at the crossover. Other than special coatings I don't know how to avoid this while keeping the faster carb warmup. I powder coated my manifold but havn't had it running to yet. I'm located in Manchester, NH. Do you ever get up this way to the cruise nites? Maybe the Friday night cruise in Nashua at Big Lots off route 101A. If you ever get up this way let me know. Chuck

As Chuck says u likely should keep the crossover open for all weather driving. ( however, I would hope that you wouldn't be driving a vintage or collector vehicle on salted roads!) Anyway, you could also install truck intake gaskets which have smaller openings to the crossover. If you can't get them locally you can order them by mail from Gasket City in Hamilton Ontario. www.gasketcity.com or 1-888-335-4686.

Found a nice one locally! Scored it for $150 with a set of dual exhaust manifolds thrown in (off a Thunderbird I think)!



How much power will I be sacrificing if I run these manifolds instead of headers?

Matt, You may have scored significantly if they are indeed from a thunderbird. And if you can run them on your truck (fit wise) I don't think you'll loose power over most headers anyway. Look at the casting numbers on the sides of the manifolds and let us know.



I see the Bird exhaust manifold go over 200 pretty often. Seems like the passenger side is the unique on, can't remember. (Again!)

Matt, the 'Bird (or car) manifolds won't fit on a truck, unless you swap side with the exit towards the front (which looks ugly as hell, IMHO). Steering gear is in the way at the back.



Alan, I believe it is the drivers side on the 'Bird that is different. Again because of steering gear (I think??)

Thanks for the replies guys. Steering gear shouldn't be an issue since it isn't there anymore! I'm running a Jag front end. I may still have fitment problems. We'll see once the engine is back in the truck.
