A few years ago on ebay, a guy was selling a bunch of fiberglass molds for 56 Ford doors, fenders, hood and trunk lids. He was from around Indy, but I could not figure a way to get them to Florida, but now that I am in mid TN, I am really interested in getting a glass nose for 55-56 Ford, maybe one of the members might know what happened to those molds?

I have a 56 that I bought out of Florida with hardly any rust, but I am going going sell that if I get this other that I have my eye on. A person had an old drag car on ebay a while back with a fiberglass tilt nose on it. That's what I really want, at one time you could a glass nose for almost anything.

I don't know where a person can get fiberglass fenders currently, although I owned a 55 with a single fiberglass fender years ago, here in western Canada. However, to get to the point, I don't understand why no one is making steel fenders for 55,56 & 57 Fords. EMS Engineering makes various patch panels for the fenders & quarter panels etc. Why don't they manufacture full fenders?  I'm sure they could sell lots of them!  Maybe, I'll write to them & suggest it...

I purchased the fenders, hood, splash pan, and radiator support parts from Fenders Plus back in 1999 and upon comparing the prices to what's now posted, the prices have only gone up about 20%.  Prices are still reasonable considering what you're getting.  I also found the decklid along with the front and rear bumpers for the '55/'56 cars at Glasstek which I also purchased at the same time.  The rear decklid did not accommodate being hinged though like the hood.  On quality, the parts from Fenders Plus were superb and required little work before painting but the pieces from Glasstek were much lighter and not near as smooth requiring much more prep to make the appearance suitable.  Upon examining the pictures of the fenders and hood that are now available, those look to be similar in quality as the parts I originally got from Fenders Plus.

How is the fender attachment point at the cowl (center of the door) handled? Is there a stud bonded to the 'glass? Are the other two back mounting tabs stout enough or is additional reinforcement needed for street use? Finally, would you say the 'glass fenders are visibly undetectable from the genuine steel units?

On the fenders, there is a 1/4 X 20 stud there for attachment purposes in the original 'center' location.  The fenders have all the original tabs in place but the top tab where the fender connects to the cowl area wouldn't hurt to be reinforced a bit as it's fender thin at that point.  The bottom tab probably wouldn't hurt to be built up either but could potentially suffice like it it unless this new manufacturer has built it up for you.  With the proper prep, the fiberglass fenders are undetectable from the steel units as long as you're just looking at the exterior parts.  If you look under or at the backside of the fenders, then you can see the rough texture of the fiberglass mat but even this could be somewhat smoothed by sanding to alleviate this.

I'm currently working on a '57 Ford fiberglass body that will require a considerable amount of preparation just to get the appearance close to presentable but will likely still end up with some waves in it.  The Fenders Plus pieces did not have these flaws to begin with which simplifies the prep work and the painting.
