Does anyone know what the protrusions or "nubs" are on the Edelbrock 573 manifold that I circled in the photo. They are on the 553 and Edelbrock's 4 and 2X4 manifolds also. They don't seem to serve any purpose. At some point, someone in the past machined them off of my 553, maybe at the same time it was "ported". Thanks to Timmy's Y-Block Page for the picture

Most likely something to do with clamping, positioning, or machining the raw castings. You'll notice similar things on factory manifiolds.

I always thought they would make a good place to mount a fuel log for the triples? Chuck
Y's guys rule! Looking for McCullouch VS57 brackets and parts. Also looking for 28 Chrysler series 72 parts. And early Hemi parts.

Charlies correct. They locate the manifold for the 1st machining operation. This way all the machining is located in relation to the top of the manifold for appearance.

OK, that makes sense about the machining. MoonShadow (9/24/2012) I always thought they would make a good place to mount a fuel log for the triples? ChuckGood idea but the inlets for Strombergs 97/48's and Holley/Ford/Chandler-Grove 94's is on the other side.
