Does anyone know what the protrusions or "nubs" are on the Edelbrock 573 manifold that I circled in the photo. They are on the 553 and Edelbrock's 4 and 2X4 manifolds also. They don't seem to serve any purpose.



At some point, someone in the past machined them off of my 553, maybe at the same time it was "ported".

Most likely something to do with clamping, positioning, or machining the raw castings. You'll notice similar things on factory manifiolds.

Charlies correct. They locate the manifold for the 1st machining operation. This way all the machining is located in relation to the top of the manifold for appearance.

OK, that makes sense about the machining.







Good idea but the inlets for Strombergs 97/48's and Holley/Ford/Chandler-Grove 94's is on the other side.
