I think that Ted and John Mummert might disagree, but I always have used my old ones with no problems.

If you have the late (63-64) Grade 8 head bolts I would use them for a street build. I think the early Grade 6 bolts are a little iffy after 50+ years especially if you don't know the history of the engine. If it is an all standard engine I would be more inclined to use the original bolts than one that has been rebuilt a couple of times. I don't know of a source for stock replacement head bolts.

Total agreement with John M on the grade six head bolts. While the original grade six head bolts are not torque to yield, after fifty plus years they do seem to yield to torque. And most are grade six rather than grade eight. John Mummert is a good source for the ARP head bolts if that’s the direction you’d like to go.

Old ones that have never ever been off and back on from Ford= motor that has never been apart be4 are fine to reuse, but if You don't know who did them and to how much torque was used if they been used again,so you are taking a chance if they been used by some one other then Ford who could of over done them= too much torque will kill the bolt. If in dout get new.

Never reuse the head bolts!!!!! On any build. ARP studs are not very expensive. Install the ARP!!! Torque to 90 lb/ft and you will be good to go. No more questions. If there is anything I have found on this motor it is head gasket issues. My engine is making over 700 whp with 24 lbs of boost and no head gasket failure.
