Hi,

I am trying to wire up a radio in my 1956 Parklane. There are quite a few unconnected wires under my dash. From other posts, I think that the power came right from the ignition switch -- sound right? I am trying to find the wire that lights up the dial. Any clues? If I find it, should I get power to it only when the lights are switched on?

Thanks,

MplsMike

I belive the wire that powers the radio also powers the light, and yes light on only when the radio is on. I also belive that the power line is fused. It's been over 20 years since I pulled a 56 radio so if I'm mistaken someone please correct me.

On the 56 Thunderbirds, there were two wires coming out of the radio. One for power (fused) and one for the light. The light wire went to a double connector which was tied into the dash lights. The dash lights were blue with a red tracer.

I don't think the sedans were that different wire wise.

The radio is fused with an inline fuse holder 5 amp.The wire which comes out of the radio at the same place as the power wire is for the light. It comes on when the headlight switch is activated.Under the dash is a brown multi connector in the wiring harness.Use a test light to locate it with the headlight switch "on".
