I'm new to the forum, but not new to Y-blocks! I have had several Ford pickups with the Y-block, and presently own a 1958 F500 cab/chassis with a Y-block. Unfortunately, the VIN is missing, and the engine seems to be made up of parts from different machines--only because it had a road tube and no tube assembly on the side of the block. It has the regular red paint and black valve covers with "FORD". Black air cleaner. I can see red paint under the blue/black paint on the valve covers, where it has chipped.

I looked at the original ads from 1958 for their F500 cab-chassis, and they mention only the 272 options.

Engine block casting number is EDB6015B.

Another casting number on the intake manifold is COAE-9425-F.

It has a 2 barrel carb 123TR, model F2.

How can I tell the difference without removing the head?
