Hey guys.
For some reason my wipers will not park. They work fine back and forth but when I switch them off they stay in the vertical position. I also hear a hissing.
I did have the unit rebuilt about 6 years ago.
My car runs much smoother with vacuum wipers bypassed. Is the electric conversion a good idea?

Thanks

Electric wipers are an excellent upgrade unless you just like the way the vacuum wipers slow down or even stop when you gas on it. Go for it I say...BigGrin

Wiperman.com can rebuild your vacuum wiper motor for $107. I highly recommend this service... my wipers work fine with the rebuilt motor, and I can't justify the cost and trouble of installing electric wipers. Plus, there is something kind of cool about having vacuum wipers!

When you say it runs smoother with wiper bypassed-do you mean at idle?I suspect there is a vacuum leak either in the motor or in the hose that supplies vacuum to the motor.I switched mine to electric 2 speed and happy with it.Newport Engineering although some have been unhappy with their motors.

Go for the electric - vacuum wipers suck (pun intended). I converted all my cars to electric and I'm very happy with them. I used Newport too.

Make sure that the cable-operated switch is reaching the limit of its travel. It sounds like the switch is stopping somewhere between ON and OFF. It is possible that the cable housing position will need adjusting.

I used to date a girl who wouldn't park, had to marry her. Now i can't "park" any longer, too old!
It sounds like the control cable is out of adjustment, (your's, not mine)
