Hi, just a quick intro. I have a 54 F100 Y block. The truck runs very well. The only issue I'm having is that I get a pop coming from the carb during low RPMs. At taking off, if I accelerate (OK, if I ease very slowly on the accelerator), and or when making a slow turn, and shifting into 2nd gear, and I start to accelerate. I had the carb rebuilt, but I still have the issue. I thought it may be the accelerator pump. Can this be a stick valve?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi and welcome to the site.

Do you do your own work on the bird and the truck? Have you had the valve covers off the truck? Is it real gunked up in there? Do you get oil to all the rockers and valve stems? If the rockers are not getting oil it is really important to get oil back there again. Besides a valve sticking in the guide without oil to the shafts it is also possible for the rocker to freeze momentarily on the shaft which will give the same effect. Let us know what you find.

If you have a vacuum gauge it can be very useful in diagnosing a problem like this.

I do some of the work, but depend on difficult issues on a friend of mine at his shop. The covers have been removed and look very clean.
