Not sure about pricing! Someone at the Colombus meet had a set of rollers that were supposedly around $400. The prices on this page of $210 is for a pair of rebuilt stock. The roller setup is over $600. I'm not familiar with the pricing for rollers in todays market so? Chuck

Gil is also currently performing analysis on oil additives to determine which have the proper amounts of ZDDP for our flat tappet Y-blocks. The results will be available by the first of the year and he will publish them. I would assume the article will also be posted at Gils Garage.

Mark.  Thanks for the update on Gil Baumgartners research project regarding additives.  I for one look forward to his findings.  Much of the current information that’s available on the subject is quickly becoming outdated and that which was valid just a year ago is even no longer even pertinent.

The Comp Cams tech bulletin recommending Shell Rotella is dated 11-28-05 and as such, is over two years old and is old news due to changes that have taken place since the article was written.

The June 2006 Hot Rod article to which many links use as a reference is actually a very good summary of all that was happening up to that point in time and includes the lifter supply issue which was big news not that long ago.  Even this article is now 1½ years old and losing its pertinency.

You reminded me I neglected to mention the other information on Gils Garage available to us. Articles on suspension, steering, transmissions, wheels, brakes, electrical, body, you name it. All specifically classic Ford and Thunderbird related. Gil has been at this for over 30 years and generously shares his hard earned knowledge there for anyone's benefit. Last spring I trailered my 57 Bird from Anchorage to his shop outside Fairfield Ca. just because I wanted him do the body and paint for my frame-off restoration. Best decision I could have made. His Concours quality work is unbelievable.

In view of the recent discussions on the forum regarding ZDDP, I thought the following information may be of interest. If you go to www.tbirdsbygil.com you will see an underlined link in the fourth sentence to Gils Garage. Click on the link and scroll down to Engines and click on Engine Oils. Great article there on ZDDP for our Y-Blocks. This site is for Gil Baumgartners Classic Thunderbird and Ford Restorations. Many of you know Gil. For those that don't, Gil is the International Authenticity Chairman, Chief Judge and Concours Chairman for the Classic Thunderbird Club International, CTCI. He has done Concours Restorations on many Thunderbirds and Ford cars. He has rebuilt many Y-blocks including some of the few remaining factory super-charged 57 Birds and the one surviving factory 1957 Battlebird. As everyone here also knows, all 55, 56 and 57 Thunderbirds were powered by 292 or 312 Y-Blocks. Gil is also currently performing analysis on oil additives to determine which have the proper amounts of ZDDP for our flat tappet Y-blocks. The results will be available by the first of the year and he will publish them. I would assume the article will also be posted at Gils Garage.
