I tried to reply to your latest post on the E setups, but couldn't do it.  Apparently I can start a new thread.  I don't know what is wrong, I'm not a computer guy.

Anyway, the '56 dual four manifold is a different casting than the '57.  I would guess the '57 manifolds were easier to cast and machine, therefore cheaper.  The '57 manifold moved the carb flanges forward a little, I would guess to provide clearance for the larger '57 distributor.  I have a copy of an ad from a manifold/carb restorer that said 102 of the '56 setups were built.  I also have a copy of a letter to dealers, offering left over kits at the dealer's cost of $100!!  I still have my '56 setup that I used to race on my '56 Bird.

I would imagine that Ford had to manufacture at least 100 (102) & make them available to the public or NASCAR & other sanctioning organizations wouldn't approve the part. For instance Bill France wouldn't approve the 56 Customline Victorias when they first came out. (info courtesy of Richard Gaston, former NASCAR mechanic)... Further on this subject, didn't Bill Stroppes Mercurys run Dual 4 Barrel setups in 56 or 57 ?

Yes, Stroppe used 2-4s both years, in '56 as 260 horse 312s and in '57 as 335 horse 368 Lincon engined Mercs.  Oddly enough the '56 Merc manifold was different from both the '56 and '57 Ford manifolds.

hello all; i remember reading a factory bullitin onn the 56 merc. 260 HP option and it used a hotter cam and carter carbs., happy new year all, wayne.
