Most of the Y block generators have a field case 6" long, but I have a generator eactly as these except the case is 7" long. What is this long-case Y bock generator for?
Thanks, Don

It is likely a Ford 35 amp generator, they are longer than the std 30 amp generators and have a longer mounting bracket. Those were used on cars with AC or optional equipment.
What are the numbers on the tag. We should be able to decipher from the parts books the car it originally came from.

Marv:
Thank you for your input. There is no tag nor stamped numbers on my generator, but the case has painted number ?840. (the "?" numeral may be 5, 6, or 8.) The case is same dia as usual. the end plate
and front bearing suport casting are exactly sa usual. The only differnce is the 3/4 longer case to accommodate 1" longer field coils.

If the longer 7" case generaor is for cars with A.C. or other high-amp loads I wonder f the generator requires a different voltage regulator, or can one mount it with the normal 30 amp regulator?

Don:
The 35 amp generators used a 37 amp regulator. These are sometimes hard to find. The coil windings inside the 37 amp regulator are heavier than the stock 30 amp regulators to handle the higher amperage
