I posted a question a few days ago about a truck pan being compatible with a T-Bird and had my question answered nicely, Thank you Hoosier and Ted. Now I am wondering about the front timing cover from this 58 Ford truck fitting a T-Bird with the front mount.
I bought the engine mostly for the heads (471) and was also wondering when Ford drilled the main bosses deeper for more thread grip. This engine has been recently rebuilt with .060 pistons and the the hone marks are very visible with no ridge in the bore.
Also I more question, does the crank have any value,it's a .010-.010 crank but no lip on the back for the rear seal. Timing chain was still tight!
I paid $150 for it if I removed it so I got the bellhousing and clutch fork, etc. Still had single exhaust with crossover pipe.
I better quit asking questions and get this posted. Thanks for all the Y-Block guys out there that keep the Y-Block in competition with all the modern iron.

The timing cover will work with the Bird mount. In fact, if the truck front mount has a single center foot, it will also fit the Bird. The two footed mount will not. The Bird used a unique generator mount to move it forward and upward so that it will clear the front crossmember. This also requires a 1" spacer between the water pump and timing cover. The generator pulley is Bird specific. Then you need a Bird front crankshaft pulley, $$$$$! An alternator would solve these problem if you are not looking for originality.

The crank would have some value to someone, I would think.

T Bird left exhaust manifold is different than passenger car, but the right one will interchange OK.

John has pretty well answered your questions. He knows his 'Birds (among other things Ford). Here's what I found

The Ford part number for the ’55-’57 ‘Bird front engine mount in the '49-'59 Ford Car Parts Text Catalog is B6C 6028-A. The Ford ’57-’60 F100/700 truck 292 engine front engine mount part number in the '57-'63 Ford Truck Text Catalog is B7C 6028-A. The difference in part numbers makes me say that there is SOME difference between the truck mount and the ‘Bird mount. In looking at a Hollander Interchange Catalog for ’54-‘66, I can’t seem to get down to the front mount.

The ‘Bird and truck front engine mounts that I’ve seen offered on eBay sure APPEAR to be the same.

Per John Mummert’s web site, FoMoCo went to longer main cap bolts in April of ’59 with use of the B9AE-F blocks and continued use of these longer bolts through the end of U.S. y-block production in ’64. Earlier FoMoCo ’59 blocks are EDB-E

’55 cranks had no rear oil slinger adjacent to the rear seal. My recollection is that Ted Eaton has reported that he’s had no issues with 312 cranks turned down to 292 main and rear seal diameter where the shop grinding the crank had to eliminate the rear oil slinger. A used .010 .010 272/292 crank should bring something on eBay.

Thanks to John and Charlie for the info on interchange parts. I looked on Mummerts site first but no luck then tried the search to no avail before I bothered you guys. My Bird is a 55 and I have converted to a 12 volt system with an alternator and I fabricated a new alternator bracket to accept the alternator.
A few years ago I sent my 57 T-Bird exhaust manifolds to Jet Hot in Utah and they polished all the casting crap off them and coated them. Not only pretty but cooler also.

So thanks for the info again, it's nice to have access to some Y-Block smart folks handy!
