Well it turns out in the tear down of my motor that I have a cracked passenger side head. My heads that I have are ECZ-C's and my friend Alex has a good set of ECZ-B's. Other than the compression ratio, is their much difference in these heads? I can increase compression via shaved heads and/or domed pistons, just wonder if I should use these?
I would LOVE some ECZ-G heads or 113's but trying to find them locally could be tough. Oh and before anyone says anything, unfortunately, aluminum heads are definitely NOT in the budget!

Rob, Call Ted, or Mummert, or Tim. I'll bet they have something. I sold my 113's or you could have had those.

Frank I talked to John and he pretty much told me that by simply uping the compression with pistons, I would have the equivalent of what I have now. Alex told me that he read someplace that the ECZ-B heads actually flowed a little better than the "C" heads due to less "valve shrouding"???? John could not confirm this. I am looking to concentrate more on torque than I am on horse power, as per the primary use of my car. I mainly want a "tire fryer" that sounds "lumpy" when cruising!
Interesting enough, my machinist told me that my engine had a "back yard" rebuild several years ago! He showed me that the cylinders had been simply ridge reamed and were actually "funneled" in shape! This caused for 3 broken rings and he is quite surprised that it ran as well as it did! I am buying a engine kit from John along with a cam and intake. I am not expecting a barn burner, but from how well my car ran with the mileage and condition of the motor, even my budget, performance, rebuild should be a noticeable improvement.

Rob, as long as you have the engine apart I would try hard to find some G or 113 heads.. I know Jerry C has some.. Barry L sees Jerry quite often and might get them back on your side of the border for u . Of course I am blathering here without checking with either individual.. LOL I sure would try hard to get the big valve heads before I put money in Cs or Bs.

Rob, I have several sets of G's 113's 471's and B9 big valve heads but you will have to make a road trip if you want a pair or pay for shipping, export taxes etc.

You may want to consider having your head repaired. Stitching cracks in cast iron has been around since God was a buck private and it works. I've had a couple of flatheads stitched up that had cracks running from an exhaust valve seat and into the cylinder. They're still running and no leaks. I did a search for crack repair in Canada; copy and paste to your browser for the results. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Rob: I think those "B" heads may have been used on stick shift engines, noteing the slightly lower compression. U could mill them a bit to = the "C" heads. And I believe Mummert has 1.84 intake valves that should fit them. Although that mite then cause some shrouding, you'd have to enquire on that ... And could you do or afford some mild street porting? Somethings to kick around...

Rob I think the effort to get G or 113 heads would be worth the effort, I have both but getting them to you is the problem.. A road trip down to Maine to Bill's may be the best way out. You can pickup some of those big crawfish while you are down there!

Rob, it's Barry L, I have a set of unposted G heads. I'm in Manitoba, just west of Winnipeg. Maybe by Greyhound, shipping might be bearable. Heads are greasy and untested. PM me if you want, I can send you pics .

Thanks for the replies everyone!
I guess the general consensus is to find the bigger valve heads! I may have a line on some locally, but will have to wait and see. Another option I have is to have them shipped to Niagara Falls NY. A friend has a PO Box there and can take shipments for me (size unlimited). This saves me brokerage fees, but I still have to pay tax on these items. My only other concern is having a set shipped all the way up only find they have cracks in them. So I would have to ask that whoever has a set could confirm that they are still good. I'm sorry if I sound pessimistic but have had that scenario before and I wouldn't want any hard feelings between my fellow Y-Blockers!
If this works for anyone, please email me at 1956vicky@gmail.com, let me know what you want for a set and what it would cost me (approximately) to have them shipped to Niagara falls. The good thing is I am not in a hurry as this is a winter project and the motor will not be going back into the car until the spring.
Thanks again to everyone for all your help!

Rob, Barry's G's would work without a blower, or John F can show you how to post them with bolts thru the top. No duties from MB.

To all, I MAY have scored a source of G or 113 heads 20 min from my house!!! I will let everyone know as soon as I find out! I also found out that I will not pay taxes on items coming across the boarder if they are under $500.00! So if my source doesn't pan out, shipping to Niagara Falls would be a viable option!!!
Oh and Frank I only WISH I could afford to put a blower on my Y-Block!!! LOL

Rob, Good luck with that. I couldn't imagine duties on 60 year old auto parts, but then I'm a very poor politician! Remember, Wally ran 12's on a set of G heads before he went aluminum. Feistritzer and i still run 471's, mine are NOT ported.

Thanks Frank! I don't expect to get that far as my car will be primarily a street cruiser! If Old Vicky gets down in the low 15's I would be ecstatic! She already fries the tires quite well, just want her to MELT the tires at will, plus when I pull into a cruise night, I want people to know that there is a healthy Y under the hood!
The thing that is strange is that even fellow Y Blockers up here can't believe is how strong my 292 did run! When I first moved to this area, there were more rumors that I was running a FE big block than I can count! Funny about it it though, is now that we tore down the motor, I can't believe it even ran normal!!!! Besides the cracked head, a previous rebuild ( NOT ME) had ridge reamed the cylinders so bad that there was excessive piston slop on all cylinders (cylinders were funnel shaped) causing 3 pistons with broken rings and less than 7 to 1 compression in those cylinders! Also with a spun rod bearing, still had over 50 psi oil pressure @ 2500 RPM (35 psi @ 700 RPM idle!). If this isn't a testament to the old "Y" I don't know what is!!!!! Car ran great right up until engine pull and didn't burn oil! Only reason I decided to pull the engine was that I could hear a slight knock over 3000 RPM!

To all who replied to me about G heads, I want to thank you!!!! I found out today from my machinist that the G heads I found locally are good! This made me extremely happy as they cost me $200.00 Canadian, which I think is a good deal! Thanks again to everyone!
