Sorry everybody, as soon as I posted in the classifieds, I realized it should have been in the Technical Forum.  They say the mind is first thing to go.Blush

My question on the classifieds was an opinion about using a Rochester 2GC (500 CFM) as a center carb on an Edelbrock 573 intake, and blocking off the two end carbs.  This would be going on a 312 (.040 over) with Mummerts 265S cam, C1AE heads with 1.84/1.60 valves and mild street port.  Not looking for all out racing performance, but would like to have respectable street performance.  Would it kill performance?  Anybody have any thoughts?

If its a two bbl carb you want, I would go with a stock 2 bbl manifold. Maybe it could be drilled for the 2GC. I guess you would have to open up the holes if they are smaller than the carb throttle bores. My personal choice would be an Edelbrock 4 bbl (500 cfm) with either the 55/56 manifold and adapter or a 57 and later manifold.

The early Y truck engines used a four bolt two barrel carburetor (a teapot two barrel Holley) of which the carburetor bolt pattern looks to be very similar to the Rochester pattern.  I have one of these intakes in the stack and will take a closer look if you’re interested.  Just let me know.

 

But in answer to your original question, a single 500 cfm Rochester would be worth a try regardless if it’s on a 3X2 intake with the end carbs blocked off or on a two barrel specific intake.  Just be sure that the carb bores at the carburetor flange at least match the carburetor size.

Thanks Ted.  I'm putting the engine together and bought the Edelbrock 3x2 from a friend.  I didn't know if this would be a goofy idea or if anyone had tried it, or if the carburetor would be enough for the engine.  I know I'll need to find or make an adaper to mate the four bolt carburetor to the three bolt intake.  I thought I saw a picture of this set up on this forum, so if anybody else has tried it, pros or cons please.  Thanks.
