a 600 Holley on a "B" manifold with a 2" spacer. I've driven the truck (3.25 Gear)

about 200 miles. It seems "lazy" doesn't want to rev out .. run down the road fine

2300/2800 rpm. Did I install the cam a tooth off? My t&c cam sprocket timing mark

was in the 10 O'clock position when the engine at t.d.c...The manual showed it in

the 3 o'clock position. At t.d.c. the crank key was at the 1 o'clock pos. and

the cam key at 1 o'clock pos.  I put the 12 pins between them.

     Please, I'm driving it to the "Lone Star Round-up " this weekend. (1000miles)

I have never paid attention to the keys.  To time the cam, both the cam and crank sprocket timing marks are to be at the 3:00 position, when facing the engine.  Then, install the chain with 12 pins between the marks.

A quick check to see if the cam is in time, pull off a rocker cover, and watch the valve action on either #1 or #6 cylinder while turning the engine over by hand (preferred) or bump it with the starter.  Watch the exhaust valve as it is closing, and just before it closes completely, the intake will start to open.  The trick is to stop turning the engine when both valves are equally open.  A straight edge across the spring retainers will help you see that point.  With both valves open equally, the timing mark on the front damper should be at 0, or very close to it.  This is assuming that the damper ring has not slipped.

   I appreciate the quick reply.... one problem i have is i could not find

any mark on the damper!!! Is this common? I put a piece of tape on the damper, turned engine until piston came up and touched my "feeler",

I then backed it up until I touched my "feeler" (marked tape both times)

then split the difference to find tdc....And?

Now that you know exactly where TDC is, put a permanent mark on the pulley and the damper ring.  The pulley mark can not move, even if the damper does.  That way you can know if the ring ever slips.  Anyway, now that you know TDC, go ahead and check cam position as above.

Sorry I didn't call, I was away for a day, missed your post.  I see you have posted for ideas to center the timing cover seal, so I have to assume you pulled the cover to check and/or re-time the cam.
