read this on their website under the new 2010 catalog (downloadable pdf version)

anyway, read last bullet under the new 94 carb description.

also making a new 3x2 intake for S/B Fords!

Cool! I wonder if that's a sign of things to come.

What happened, did Vic jr. die??? Or run out of SBC customers???
By Oldmics - 15 Years Ago
I guess they think its good business. There only going to offer it if it makes a profit for them.

There must be enough new Y Block requests to bring it on.

I like it!

It is a good thing, just surprised because of what Jr. has said about Y-Blocks in the past.

Edelbrock reproducing the 94 should be a good thing for guys that already have 94's because they claim to have the "correct power valves". Doesn't look like they have primary and secondary carbs tho...

A new Y block manifold is far more than I ever expected. It does say something about the popularity resurgence in the last 5 or so years. I don't see a price for the new 94's. Does anyone have info on what they will cost?

Talked to Edelbrock and they said the realistic dates are June-Aug for the primary.  Secondary carb will be based on interest and is being taken out of their catalogs.  The intake days was last 3rd quarter which means 4th quarter.  No prices were established according to the guy I talked to.  He did say he was at some show and was suprised by all the Y blocks there.  Maybe Vic is starting to see the light.BigGrin

It's weird that they'll offer 3 deuce intakes but no secondary carbs. Seems like secondaries will sell 2 to 1.
By Bob's 55 - 15 Years Ago
Maybe they feel they can charge more for the primary because of the choke, power valve, idle circuit, etc; and let you convert them yourself. OR you could run three primarys. I'm running three Stromberg 97's that are all the same except for choke removed from end carbs, sound like the same as Ted is going to run in the "Great Texas Y-Block Three Deuce Shoot-Out Test and Dyno Flog".

With that new manifold it sure would look nice with a new Aluminum Thermostat Housing???

it'll look great if they reproduce the finned valve covers too!

(a valley plate would be a nice touch too)

Thinking valley covers?????????   Check with John Mummert , he has an aluminum one....plain or polished .......support a contributor of this site.   Barry     from Manitoba

Barry,

Thanks for the reminder. I will order a valley cover from Mr. Mummert tomorrow.

The guy I talked to said expect a $325 range on the carbs, to put them at an advantage to the real 97's that are just south of $500 each...Crazy

Based on what he said, the new 3x2 will not be a 573, but a new (possibly improved?) version...

I have to agree with home folks Barry L that supporting the people on this site that live and breathe Y-Blocks is a must.  I've got two Y-Blocks with parts from John Mummert and you can't go wrong with perfection.  But Barry, I thought you were going to Vegas this week, is this just a little side trip?

Well if you want to go cheap, buy Speedy Bill's chinese junk "9 Super 7" carbs... Seriously, let's wait and see what Jr. is going to charge for the repro 94's before we believe what "The guy I talked to said".

Me, I'll stick with my trio of Stromberg 97's so I don't have to worry about blowing a power valve, haha...
By MarkMontereyBay - 15 Years Ago
I would expect the "new" 94 to use the blow-proof power valve check ball kits. Might be interesting to determine one of these "blow-proof" kits could be adapted to an original 94. I never understood why Holley let the blown power valve problem go on for so long.

okay, i'm with you on that. but any more new products from current manufacturers that help boost Y interest and help our economy is a good thing.

Because they haven't made them since ~1957?
By MarkMontereyBay - 15 Years Ago
Sorry...what I meant was the Holley power valve problem continued into the "modern" era (1957 to 1990's?) carbs built by Holley.

Mark, I see Edlebrock list a rebuild kit (that includes the correct Power Valve) for the new 94 plus it states that it will also work on Holley 94's. Which indicates that the parts will interchange.

On a side note the New Stromberg 97 parts work on all old 97's and most parts work on the 48's.
By MarkMontereyBay - 15 Years Ago
Bob,

That is a good thing for original 94 owners. Charlie Price at Vintage Speed has a full set of rebuild kits plus he has been offering new power valves that he has modified to fit the early 94's.

Given the multitude of original 94's, and the derivatives, I think their price point will realistically be in the low to mid-$300 range for them to sell any...

It isn't difficult to find a matching set of 94 style carbs, even this many years down the road. I have a set of (6) ECG 1 1/16" throat carbs that I assembled sort of on a lark...I never go to a swap meet where I could find at least a dozen for under $30-40 each. I also isn't difficult to polish the markings off so they "match"...

just my 2 cents

Then again, only the secondaries ought to really be identical. My dear old dad used to run a plymouth fury and he had three totally different carburettors on it...or at least, the primary was a lot different and the secondaries were pretty close to each other, I think one had a higher flow than the other. It's just a matter of how much patience you have for tuning.

Tom: If you can't find one elsewhere, there's an outfit in the East that advertises in H.M.N., that has vintage auto trans parts. Don't have the address in front of me but his name is Edwards. Or try on the web under transmissions.

Sorry! the above posting is on the wrong subject. Should have been for the "Flexplate required"
