Don't that just bring a tear to your eye? Then again, I have a friend whose backyard has a few 40s-50s cars just like that, for about a month I drove a 1941 Imperial and he drove a 1956 mercury, we used a slant six from a dodge W-150 for mine and a 170 out of a ford 250 for his.
I urge you all, at least once, build something dangerous a dying to drive, something out of this ever shrinking bracket of cars. It was easy for us, we had a Junkyard for a backyard. But I'll bet it would have been less than a hundred each to do what we did. it's more fun than a real resto, although it sure don't last as long!

Cool! Old junkyards are fun, we used to have one that looked alot like that with a grumpy old guy running it. He still would just let us go out an look around for what we wanted.  Good times!

Hey, I need some people telling me it's a good idea so I want to do this project, I know it's scrilige to talk about Nova's here, but that's just the car I can get.
I can get a 71 Nova, no engine and beat up, and a 78 chevy I6 from a JY van. It's gonna look like crap and be disgusting, but it will be giving the Nova a new life. Good idea?

I can get a 71 Nova, no engine and beat up, and a 78 chevy I6 from a JY van. It's gonna look like crap and be disgusting, but it will be giving the Nova a new life. Good idea?I'm all for giving a Nova new life but not with a '78 I6 (292 or 250?) I think if you want to do it right an old Ford engine of some sort would be better. FE, 385 or even a wore out 300 six just to make it interesting. If you realy want to go crazy find some old industrial engine like a Continental flathead six.

Tim, at the risk of disagreeing with you, I think he should go ahead with a six. I used to run semi cattle haulers with 292 motors, and I built a 55 scrub with a 292. You can actually make a lot of power with those and sound really good at the same time. Clifford engineering, and I am sure, other companies make many parts for these motors. Whatever it takes to float your boat.

I love the Y-blocks,but any old inline 6 with dual carbs,a split manifold and Smittys is special too.

I'm still trying to get the guy to sell me the Nova. he likes the idea of it having new life, though. He's also got a 1955 Ford customline, it's totally rusted and rotted, but we still have the 223 from his old Junkyard-Cruiser merc, it was hard to not try that.
The engine is a 230. It's not a powerhouse, but the car was originally a I6 car, it couldn't really handle a V8 when it was new...and it's a long, long way from new.

Whatever it takes to float your boat.I think I was misunderstood, I have nothing against scrub sixes. I'm a big fan of the 292 I was just asking if it was a 292 or a 250 cause the '78 250 with integral head is a real POS and should be given a wide berth. On the other hand an old style six head will bolt up in its place. (194, 230, 250, 292) I was also trying to keep some sort of Ford in our conversation, I mean com'on this is a Y-Block site, if your gonna talk about a Nova you better be installing something Blue Oval!

I guess that I have always had a problem with switching motors between different manufacturers. Just a foible of mine, so take no offense, and I might add of course, that the Y is my favorite. "Y's" forever.

I left out the Y because I wasn't sure I could get one...I know I can now, but it might not run, and it's from an old F-600 flatbed, it's an old 272 that's had the piss beat out of it, but it';s almost certainly gonna be stronger than the 250 I6...if I can get it to work!

How about putting a blue oval in something Chev? I mean traditional chev holly grail maybey a 37 sloper with a y block. Hey i know it's weong but I wouldn't get arrested It'd be so wrong somehow it would seem right
