How difficult would it be?

Anyone ever thought of the idea of having a Y block regional meet? Outside of Carlisle or Columbus?

I know that in our neck of the woods (Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania), it seems like we could have a few Y blockers together on a weekend for a show, get together, racing, or whatever. I just spent the good part of the day with Cactus, and I know Dennis, the leaky plumber, lives not too far away from me. Jerry's just about 45 minutes away or so, and then there are a few others I've met at Carlisle or in southern Virginia...what do you say guys? Wink

Good idea Daniel, we've certainly had a few meet us at El Mirage, it would be nice to have them all come at the same time.  Anyone on the west coast we will be out in Nov. for the last meet of the year for the SCTA, I believe that Charlie, Todd, Chris and myself will be there. That is a good start. Wink

Mason/Dixon dragway in Hagerstown MD had a nice Ford show and drags about the 3rd week in August. This year it was on a Sunday, last year it was on a Saturday. It's a nice event, I like going there.

In 2 weeks the jalopy shown drags is at Beaver Springs dragway, I'm going there. That's a nice event too. It's on a Saturday Oct. 2nd.

I asked some time ago about a Ford only car show. I can get the American Legion fairgrounds/ball fields for a meet. Space for hundreds of cars, thousands of campers , and one or two vendors. Just need to get over my current ailment and I can look into it in better detail. This would be in Hickory NC Exit 128 off I-40. Plenty of hotels, restaurants, and a Wal-Mart for all the shoppers. If you all can wait till I get my mind back in place I can look into it further. If interested.

How about right here, in Atlanta, so you all can actually see my alleged truck.BigGrin

Hickory is doable. It's about a 4 hour drive for me.

Maybe its not an alleged truck Charlie - maybe its "virtual"?

I sold Charlie a pair of G heads a few years ago.  I doubt he would spend that much for a couple of doorstops, and they won't fit his Firebird, so he must have a truck with a Y block.

I had a small gathering with the T-Bird club in New Hampshire a few years ago. They were helpful but only to a point. Attendance was fair for the Y-Blockers so it did seem to be an Idea.

I would suggest checking into existing venues that we could attach ourselves too. Like a drag meet or outdoor car show. Many of these hosts will provide a parking area for specific cars if there are enough of them.

Try something small to start with like a one day meet and see what the local Y's guys response is. Flyers given out as cruise nites etc. cost very little and help bring attendance. Always be on the lookout for "new" members/y-blockers. There are MANY out there that are not online or haven't heard of our group. They will often want to see "how it goes" the first year or so before attending.

Most of all publicize the event wherever possible. Local papers have free sections for coming events also all the online car hobby sites and the local Cruising list or magazine.

Good luck, and keep us posted on the progress. Chuck in NH

John, he keeps them in the trunk of the firebird so he can drive around in the snow.

Dennis:

Be careful, or we may hear of another use for them.  As a local Stude guy refers to them, "Watercraft mooring device.  Of course, he's talking about scrub stuff, not Y.

I tried to write this last night but the site went down while writing so I

ll try again.

The All Ford Show in June at Carlisle (sp?), PA will provide an area and a tent for any group if they get enough entries. Contact the Carlisle Fairgrounds for info. They have a web site

There is a group that goes to Carlisle each year. I managed to get to one. Great Ford show and flea market with a little dragstrip neaby for some fun. Didn't see any indication of tents being provided except to really large or special interest groups. Crown Victoria Association was parked on the field near us. But that said it's a nice cental location for a lot of east coast people. Unfortunately it falls on our anniversary weekend and I have a choice between wife of 45 years or cars? There are a lot of all Ford meets around the country that could serve as basic venue's for our guys. Maybe we should hook up with them for regional shows? Chuck in NH

Birds of Pullozia!

That was a meet at Drag strip near Dallas.   It had good turnout and was fun.   I made it two years.  Jerry Chirstenson made it.

Peter Leddy, Robert Goodwin, and some others  put it together and it was a lot of work for Peter.

We could have a Y-Blockshot out at the Tulsa Mid America Shelby Meet the second week in June.   They used to have an Edsel Shoot out my dad raced in.

Hey Guys, how about Canada? They have an all Ford Drag meet at Cayuga every year (NHRA track), about an hour  north of Buffalo. Would anyone be interested in crossing the boarder?  Maybe I could even convince the Aussie's to come???

I have some friends on the reserve at Tyendinaga. It would provide a good excuse to go visit them. What are next years dates? I would definitely consider going. Chuck in NH

Hey

I'm all for Cayuga. I am about 1 hour west of there. Our step son is going there tomorrow to race.

I was just down in Martinsburg WV very near Hagerstown this past week, if I knew some of you were close by it may have been more interesting than wearing my elbows out on the bar of the hotel. There are many more interesting clubs close by but I wanted to behave.

As Far as Canada, they let me in if I am on vacation but when I try to work there they reject me. Funny I work all over the world but can't go next door.

I made it to Birsapaloosa in '04.  Next year was on Mother's Day.  Been hoping to hear of another.

Gordie, since you live close to there, would it be possible to get a schedule for the Ford meet. I live farther north, but if I can find a contact I will see if it is even plausable to have a Canadian Y shootout. We may even have to invite the Aussie's (if they let them into the country!!!!  LOL).  Tongue
