I've got p/s on my 312 and I plan to add air in the next couple of months.  I assume I'm going to need a 3-groove pulley to drive this set-up, but I'm not sure where to start looking for one.  Any suggestions will be appreciated.  Thank you, Ron.

Howdy,

I don't think you can get 3 groove pulleys but you can get 2 groove dampers and bolt a third pulley on it.

This is what I'm doing with the 292 that's going in my 55 F-600.

I won't be using the alt in the picture. That is a 55 AMP marine alternator (spare for my boat!) I'll be using a 100A 12si Delco alt with a double groove pulley.

I'll run 2 parallel belts over the A/C pump and ALT. The front belt will continue up over the fan drive which will be 5 inches or so above the water pump driving a clutch and 19" fan on it's own 1" shaft. The rear belt will go from the inner groove of the alt pulley back down to the rear groove of the damper.

The front belt on the gray pulley drives the water pump and PS pump.

The brackets shown are from Vintage Air. I am building my own bracket to support 2-bolt flange bearings that will support the "high-mounted" fan drive.

Cheers,

Rick

EDIT.....evidently Ford-Trucks doesn't allow posing links to "their pictures" even if you own them!! So I changed to my own link at Photobucket!

Ron;

I run AC and PS on my '56 Customline. I have a 3 groove crank pulley, but I'm only using 2 of the grooves. I have the altenator and AC compressor running off 1 belt and the power steering running off the other. You will need to spend some time making sure of your belt allignment. I think the AC/Alt bracket I got was from a company in Florida. It mounts the atlenator above the AC compressor.

Nice to know that those are available!!

Thanks for all the great information (and the pictures!) everyone.  I've got a "dual-groove" dampener on the car now, so I will start looking around for a single groove pulley I can bolt to it and I should have a solution.  Ron

Where did you find a two grove aluminum pulley? Chuck in NH

Here’s picture of a ’57 312 Mercury damper with three belt grooves (sheaves) integral with the damper.

Here’s also a couple of pics of the bolt on pulley that adds two more belts to the stock single belt damper.

Chuck, a friend gave me the aluminum pulley along with a new damper. He is ill so I don't talk to him that often but when I do I'll find out where he got it. Looks just like the iron one Ted posted the picture of. Mike

What did you guys do for belt alignment, with the vintage air kit? My kit looks like the belts are a bit off line, I was thinking I would have to alter the shims to correct it.
By Rono - 14 Years Ago
Yes! You will more than likely have to play with the shims and spacers to make the belts allign correctly.

Rono,

You shouldn't be needing air conditioning now that you are in Maine, Maybe you could sell him one of your pulley's?

I added a dual groove pulley to my alternator and shimmed my mounts to line everything up. That way, I'll have 2 parallel belts driving the alternator and A/C pump.

I may have overlooked it, but I have not seen a post that reveals any source for a two grove pulley to fit over a stock single grove dampner (ECG 6316) for a total of three sheaves. I have seen a single pulley, but not a double pulley. Does anyone have a source?
