I am an old car guy. Like old cars, old trucks, classics, chrome, V8's, and all the rest, but this show called "Desert Valley Car Kings" ought to be called Desert Valley Scrub Clones. Don't watch enough TV to keep up with all of these types of car resto/mod shows, but I watched a couple of episodes that we had tivo'd, and I obviously wasted my time..except for some good laughs. The owner of Desert Valley Auto Parts gave the above quote about the 292 after he raised the hood on a 62 Galaxie project that his "crack team" of professional restorers were about to delve into. Went on about how it's not worth anything with that motor, the 292 can't get more than 200 horses out of it, you can't get any horses out of a Y block no matter how much money you spend, blah, blah, blah. Then they went out and put a 351? in the thing and wondered why they broke even at auction when it only went for $6500? Is this show for real? Just more of the anti-Y block mass media indoctrination...the conspiracy continues. One good point...seems that they do have a lot of classic car metal and parts in their huge yard. Anybody ever visited there?

I called them a few years ago looking for some sheet metal, etc. Their prices are stratospheric. I passed. I wouldn't take the advice of most wrecking yard employees too seriously. Their main tools are a hot wrench, a forklift, and a cash register.

I love the way they "restore" these vehicles. Used drive train and a surface job with new upholstry is not a restored vehicle. I've never seen them do anything with brakes, exhaust etc. The show is a bad joke! I love the way the kids around the yard know every piece from every car and what applications they will fit. That in itself is amazing, or is it just TV? Chuck in NH

Y-Guys: Tim, Charlie, Mr. Mummert, Todd and other Calif. Y-Blockers,
Don't hold this against me, but I tend to agree with Charlie Daniels,
"California ain't the promise land" /Desert Valley Parts.....

Bill Don't worry, our part of Calif. is different than what most think. Except maybe John, he's right down there in "liberal land".

I actually called them last week looking for interior parts for a 57 and I barely got out what I wanted and he said "Oh we wouldn't have that"

I've had some really good times in southern California but that was due to visiting with people of like interests. First in the military and then on business. I visited several hot rod shops, Roy Brizio's in particular. What a nice bunch of guys! That said I vastly prefer the people and area from Sacremento north. Its beautiful country with more urban folk than wierdo's. Chuck in NH

I contacted them several years ago looking for a few parts. Very unhelpful, rude, couldn't be bothered...no thanks.

Hey, hey. hey... now come on you guys, just because there's some D-Bags that live out in the middle of Mojave Desert doesn't mean we're all bad.
Maybe if we could send some of the non-indigenous people BACK to where ever they came from, it wouldn't be so bad, maybe.

Hey now....my family settled in the Santa Clara(Silicon) Valley in 1850. Been here ever since and no chance of ever leavin'. I did 3 and a half years on the flight line in Amarillo and that cured me. We have our share of goat-ropers and gun racks to go with everyone else that wants to come here. Me..I am so far left I make Nancy Pelosi sound like frick'n Glen Beck but I have loved Y blocks since my first car (57 Ford). Okay, I'm done. Back to my table full of 94's.

Anybody ever visited there? Yep! I visited their lot about two years ago. What a waste of time. Wasn't worth the time it took me to find it! A lot of junk in bad shape. If I remember correctly their web site is at www.dvap.com

I have also been there, what a waste of time, bunch of junk, I did get an overdrive emblem off the back of a car for my vicky, Think they charged me 35 bucks for it. I also have a scrub lovin buddy that saw that show and doesn't he rub it in everytime he stops over my place full of Y blocks, he has to tell the story about that show and the quote, I'll never live that quote down and I didn't even see the show.

Mike, Mark, Master. I doubt if those remarks were aimed at you. California does, however, seem to attract or develope some ah...............different folks. Nancy, and "Moonbeam" come to mind.

Frank,
No worries, just had to jump in and say a few words in defense of California. Not many Yblockers in my area at all, in fact none locally. Jerry Brown got saddled with the "moonbeam" moniker because he wanted to launch and orbit a satellite to facilitate increased and better telecommunications for the state government information systems. Now nearly all states and corporations have them including Ford Motor Co. The last 5 or so years I was working for the Ford Dealer here, we were taking our tech/new model training classes directly from Dearborn in real time with the instructor and other students around the country at our dealership classroom using the FordStar satellite.
