I am an old car guy. Like old cars, old trucks, classics, chrome, V8's, and all the rest, but this show called "Desert Valley Car Kings" ought to be called Desert Valley Scrub Clones. Don't watch enough TV to keep up with all of these types of car resto/mod shows, but I watched a couple of episodes that we had tivo'd, and I obviously wasted my time..except for some good laughs. Tongue

The owner of Desert Valley Auto Parts gave the above quote about the 292 after he raised the hood on a 62 Galaxie project that his "crack team" of professional restorers were about to delve into. Went on about how it's not worth anything with that motor, the 292 can't get more than 200 horses out of it, you can't get any horses out of a Y block no matter how much money you spend, blah, blah, blah. Then they went out and put a 351? in the thing and wondered why they broke even at auction when it only went for $6500? Is this show for real?

Just more of the anti-Y block mass media indoctrination...the conspiracy continues.

One good point...seems that they do have a lot of classic car metal and parts in their huge yard. Anybody ever visited there?

I called them a few years ago looking for some sheet metal, etc. Their prices are stratospheric. I passed. I wouldn't take the advice of most wrecking yard employees too seriously. Their main tools are a hot wrench, a forklift, and a cash register.

I love the way they "restore" these vehicles. Used drive train and a surface job with new upholstry is not a restored vehicle. I've never seen them do anything with brakes, exhaust etc. The show is a bad joke! I love the way the kids around the yard know every piece from every car and what applications they will fit. That in itself is amazing, or is it just TV? Chuck in NH

I agree. Lipstick on a pig. I actually called them last week looking for interior parts for a 57 and I barely got out what I wanted and he said "Oh we wouldn't have that"

I've had some really good times in southern California but that was due to visiting with people of like interests. First in the military and then on business. I visited several hot rod shops, Roy Brizio's in particular. What a nice bunch of guys!

That said I vastly prefer the people and area from Sacremento north. Its beautiful country with more urban folk than wierdo's. Chuck in NH

I contacted them several years ago looking for a few parts. Very unhelpful, rude, couldn't be bothered...no thanks.
