55/56 rear ends

Does anyone know if a 55 center section is bolt-in replacement in a 56?Are the axle shafts,bearings and splines the same?

Paul:

The center sections will interchange in the housings, '49-'56.  However, '49-'55 had 17 spline axles, '56 had 28.  You can use the '55 axles in the '56, or change the spider gears to match the '56 axles.

You confirmed what I had floating around in my foggy memory.I was pretty sure there was a difference,but couldn't remember what it was.
