Does anyone know if a 55 center section is bolt-in replacement in a 56?Are the axle shafts,bearings and splines the same?

Paul: The center sections will interchange in the housings, '49-'56. However, '49-'55 had 17 spline axles, '56 had 28. You can use the '55 axles in the '56, or change the spider gears to match the '56 axles.

Thanks John, You confirmed what I had floating around in my foggy memory.I was pretty sure there was a difference,but couldn't remember what it was.
